Survey E-News Welcome to the latest issue of KOREC's Survey Division Newsletter, designed to keep you up to date with news from KOREC and Trimble. We have the latest news from INTERGEO 2008 where introduced further enhancements to its complete surveying portfolio as part of its Connected Site™ solutions including:
- New models of the Trimble® S8 Total Station with options for monitoring and tunneling applications
- New version of Trimble Business Centre
- A scalable Trimble VX™ Spatial Station
In our newsletter last month we featured some project photography with the Coastal Monitoring Team at Worthing Borough Council, pictured above monitoring beach levels at Brighton beach. I am pleased to say that this photography was recently used alongside an article in Surveyor magazine, bringing some excellent PR for the Coastal Monitoring Team and KOREC. With this in mind, if you have any suitable projects you would like us to consider for photography and PR please get in touch with our marketing team by email at marketing@korecgroup.com.
Thank you for your continued business, Very Best Regards

New: Trimble VX Spatial Station: Opening Doors to Spatial Imaging Launched at INTERGEO 2008 the new model of the Trimble VX offers an entry into Spatial Imaging with integrated video and surveying functionality only.
Surveying businesses looking for ways to get the most out of their time in the field and office will appreciate the productivity gains from video aiming and in-field QC imaging. This new model also provides surveyors with 2D capabilities to produce sophisticated, image-based deliverables. The new model of the Trimble VX Spatial Station is scalable to full 3D spatial imaging functionality by upgrading to the scanning capabilities.
The new Trimble VX Spatial Station includes:
- Trimble VISION™ technology: With digital images of the work area streaming onto the controller, users can simply select the point they want to measure on the controller touch screen. This feature makes robotic operation even easier.
- An integrated camera captures images of the work area for combining with survey data.
- Trimble SurfaceScan technology offers reduced-resolution 3D scanning.
- The scalability to upgrade to full 3D scanning capability in the future.
The Trimble VX Spatial Station partners with Trimble RealWorks Survey office software so users can overlay 3D data onto 2D images. This capability produces rich, ortho-rectified images for presentation and analysis.

New: Trimble S8 Total Station Models New options and configurations for the Trimble S8 Total Station create opportunities in monitoring and tunneling. They add application-specific functions to what many already consider the most sophisticated surveying total station available, including:
- Trimble® FineLock technology is a smart tracker sensor with a narrow field of view. A Trimble S8 equipped with FineLock will detect a target without interference from surrounding prisms, achieving more reliable accuracy and greater density of mounted targets.
- Trimble FineLock is also offered as a Long-Range FineLock option reaching up to 2500 m — a first in the industry. Now, long-distance applications on jobs such as such as dams, bridges and open pit mines are easily accomplished with a standard survey sensor.
- For tunneling applications, a Long-range laser pointer provides the power to cut through dusty conditions when staking-out bolts and other assets. This option adds new strength to an already highly capable tunneling-management system.
The Trimble S8 partners with Trimble 4D Control software and the Engineering option in Trimble Survey Controller software to provide a complete solution for data acquisition, control analysis, and alarming.
Trimble 4D Control is an advanced software package designed for deformation monitoring applications from simple campaign style monitoring such as periodic bridge inspection to large scale, real-time deformation monitoring. It is a complete solution for processing and analysing monitoring data, as well as managing and scheduling a network of optical sensors in real time. The software can control up to five total stations with a single computer and it is scalable to manage large deployments covering hundreds of monitoring points from a centralized control center. In addition, automatic alerts can notify operators instantly when movement exceeds specified tolerances.

Updated: Trimble Business Centre 2.0 Offers Optical Surveying Support For many surveyors, Trimble Business Centre is already an indispensable Quality Assurance tool for Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data. With new support for optical surveying data in Version 2.0, Trimble Business Centre now provides a powerful resource for all of a surveyor's Integrated Surveying projects. Trimble Business Centre Version 2.0 can verify and integrate GNSS and optical data into single file as well as output data to a range of applications such as GIS, photogrammetry and CAD.
Now it’s easier than ever for you to accelerate your business with the power of the Connected Site:
- Total station, GNSS and level data can be combined in one place.
- Automated Feature Coding generates detailed point and line information.
- Data download is streamlined.
Trimble Business Centre 2.0 lets users easily combine and manage data from multiple sources to generate accurate, integrated survey results. With all their information in one place, surveyors can be confident in their data quality and accuracy. And no matter which Trimble Integrated Surveying instruments are used, the workflow remains the same.
Trimble Business Centre is still offered as a modular system, so when working with L1 GPS data only you can select a simple module without the need to set dual-frequency controls. When extra capacity is needed, upgrading to full GNSS, optical and digital level processing and network adjustment is simple.
